These are my 10 golden points for effective management, what are yours....
"The Strength of the Pack is the Wolf and the Strength of the Wolf is the Pack."

Always know your end goal, any work you do start from keeping the end goal in mind. Stay focused in achieving your goal and don't get side tracked by the distraction. Lot of the time we set out to achieve certain goal and end up working on totally non-productive stuff. Staying focused to me one of the key to effective management.
Nothing can beat the proper planning. Big goals look and achieved with ease by staying organized and planning ahead. This is my second mantra to effective management.
You know your goal, you have planned it, the next step of course is the execution. Always be productive to continuously achive sucesses in life.
This is my last point on effective management when it comes to what you can get out of yourself. These 4 points involves only you and noone else. Don't worry about distraction, people, achivements etc. and continue to stay focused, organized and be productive.
This one is one of the key for me. Lot of the managers don't even realize the power of praise and motivation. You can get the maximum out of your team just by motivating them. Always spend your 5 minutes to praise and motivate your team to get additional 5 hours of work a day. Only A motivated team can beat a powerful team. I always sight the example of Leicester City (English Premier League), when the teams like Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea had all the money on earth to buy any player they want, A very motivated team of Leicester City went on to win the premier league.
To me a great process works like a shop floor with lot of machinerries. Your processes should be so strong that the humans are used like machines (not in a negative way of course). Everyone should know what they are supposed to do, what they are responsible for. Even in your absence the work should continue to go on and you should be able replace one individual with another at any point in time (no dependecy created).
Always keep learning new stuff, be it technoloy, process or anything else yourself so that you can help others doing their work better. This will also help you reducing your dependencies on others. A good manager always leads the team from front and gains the respect from them rather than demanding it.
Always keep your team trained, motivated, focused, organized, productive (all the things you expect from yourself). This will help you immensely in achiving great successes in life.
Individually you can achieve only that much but together as a team you can achive wonders. Teamwork is most definitely the single most important point of effective management. Always believe in developing a team rather than individuals.
The last but not the least is about trusting the individuals. The trust increases the decision making in your team and they are least dependent on you to get their work done. This will free up lot of time for you to plan out the next big thing you would like to achive and the cycle continues.
...and finally a quote from Jungle Book on team work
